Week 9 Assignment #3
DIBELS is a general assessment given to early childhood
readers to evaluate their reading achievements. On the other hand QRI5 is an assessment
created for individual students. It
measures a specific students reading abilities as well as what mistakes they
make. DIBELS is an early intervention assessment whereas QRI5 is not. DIBELS is
a set of assessments that evaluates specific strategies that students may use
to identify words. It zooms in to specific things that students may or may not
be doing that leads to unsuccessful reading. DIBELS on the other hand is a set
of assessments that measures the big ideas of early literacy skills.
QRI5 and DIBELS both help teachers with whole class
instruction. QRI5 helps teachers know the students exact abilities and
struggles so that a customized lesson can be put together to accommodate the specific
needs of her students. It also allows for the teacher to institute individual
instruction to help boost students in the areas they are lacking. On the same
note, DIBLES helps the teacher know what big ideas to focus whole class
instruction on to keep her students up to par. It allows teacher to monitor students’
progress due to the fact that it is given periodically.
What a clear, concise, and commprehensive summary!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you contrasted the two assessment tools. I think the big key to using assessment tools is using the right one. Every situation calls for a specific type of assessement tool so teachers have to understand the nature of each one.
